  • all too often, the story that wants to be told is the one we avoid and then we claim that we have writer's block.

the reality is once u get out of ur head abt what the story "should" be, u can ALLOW the story that wants to be told to emerge. it's the fear that u'll air ur dirty laundry and no one wants to hear that.

every story begins with what happened. that's the raw transcript; the final draft will be edited, shaped, new characters will become composites of people uv known and characters uv been.
the raw story, the dirty laundry is simply ur understanding of the human condition as uv observed it in ur every day life. it's abt learning how to listen to the characters u already know.

it is in the rewrites where u create drama. drama has inciting incidents, high stakes, plot points all of which happen long after uv written the raw story. no one ever has to see that...that first truth-telling is where u start writing. it's where u begin when u don't know where to begin. in the telling is where u learn to write ...to create drama out of the magical everyday lived moments of ur life.

don't stop urself from writing ur story bec of who u may or may not offend. putting fear before the story is poor planning bec until u allow urself the freedom to just write and edit later, u won't know what the story is.

u have to just tell it, get the words, events out of ur head and onto the page. the process of doing that will teach u where u need to go next.

take the first step: write as if no one will ever see ur writing. what u will learning from writing fearlessly and not knowing where ur going is the most brillant way to learn how to tell story...just write, so u can write

is a place to find resources for playwrights & screenwriters.

So I created this space for people who are actually writing as a practice, not just talking about it or dreaming about it, but are actually doing some badassery on the regular...

meaning write every day...rain, shine, work, sleep, drunk, too tired, too many kids, blah blah...

    BadAssWriters just fucking write...
