All stories need complex characters. Solo shows, Memoirs, Books, Plays....It's how you avoid talking head syndrome.
In my classes, I teach my Roshomon Storytelling Technique (same story from different characters POV) along with the psychological gesture which is informed by learning how to interview your characters.
In this video, my client Susan, tells another person's story from the view point of one of her classmates: so we end up with 3 different POVs:
the original storyteller,
and the person whose POV the actor has chosen to tell the story from
This creates another layer to the story by complicating the characters.
