Two of the most powerful black women in Hollywood have moved onto the next phase of their careers: producing. Last week, the news broke that Kerry Washington and Viola Davis have both signed overall deals with ABC Studios to develop and produce new content under their own production companies.
Why is this important?
Because they are not resigning to solely acting roles. They are both at the peak of their careers, but what better way to grow further than to place yourself at the producer's table in the writing room?
There can only be one Kerry Washington.
There can only be one Viola Davis.
But there are thousands upon thousands of stories yet to be told... and they are rising up to fill that void.
What are you waiting for?
“I believe strongly in the importance of having a seat at the table, which makes starting this production company thrilling for me. It’s an honor to be at a point in my career when I can help generate projects that that are exciting, necessary and truly reflect the world around us. I’m grateful to be on this journey with ABC, a network that remains unparalleled in its commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
